About Hywel Dda University Health Board
Hywel Dda University Health Board provides a wide range of healthcare services to a population of around 384,000 across Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, and Pembrokeshire. The Health Board operates a comprehensive network that includes general hospitals, community hospitals, health centres, and various other medical facilities. Each year, approximately 115,000 individuals benefit from these services. In such a large healthcare environment, reliable and uninterrupted mobile connectivity is crucial for both staff and patients.
The Challenge
At Bronglais General Hospital, the Health Board needed to ensure a stable mobile signal throughout both the older and newly constructed wings of the hospital. They specifically aimed to enhance EE signal coverage across the entire building, as the current solutions—network-based boosters and Wi-Fi calling—had proven ineffective in resolving coverage gaps.
The CEL-FI QUATRA mobile signal booster system completely addressed our mobile coverage issues. Prior to installation, the signal was virtually non-existent. Now, it has consistently improved to two to three bars, which has been a huge improvement for us
Business Requirements
In healthcare, being able to communicate efficiently and reliably is a key aspect of providing quality care. For Hywel Dda University Health Board, the challenge was ensuring consistent mobile signal coverage within the newly developed wing of Bronglais General Hospital, as well as enhancing coverage in the existing areas. Previous attempts to boost the signal had failed, leading to frustration with unreliable connections. The health board sought a more cost-effective and dependable solution.
The Solution
After assessing the site, it was determined that the CEL-FI QUATRA 1000 mobile signal boosters would be the optimal solution. The CEL-FI QUATRA 1000 is a scalable, in-building system designed to deliver high-quality mobile signal coverage in spaces up to 200,000 square feet. This cost-effective system combines the advantages of active Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) and Smart Booster technologies. It uses CAT 5e/6 cabling for RF and power over Ethernet, ensuring that the signal is maintained throughout the building without any attenuation, even at the perimeter.
Outcomes Achieved
The installation of the CEL-FI QUATRA 1000 system significantly boosted the EE mobile signal throughout Bronglais General Hospital. This solution was exactly what the Health Board needed: it was efficient, cost-effective, and easy to deploy.
