A few of us took to the water to enjoy the D-Day anniversary and some sailing. A memorable day indeed.
As our head office is located in Portsmouth, we felt compelled to be there in honour of our veterans. This was a unique event, and lets face it, how often does Portsmouth attract world leaders and dignitaries such as Donald Trump, Emmanuel Macron, Theresa May, Angela Merkel and of course our beloved Queen, all putting politics aside in honour of our veterans and those who never returned.
And what an amazing day it was – and a privilege to witness. It felt like all of Portsmouth had turned out in great spirits. We chose our spot out on the Solent in a 37ft yacht, so we had ringside seats for the fly-by, the royal naval gun salute and of course the red arrows display (who were flying over our heads). As far as the eye could see, the coast was lined with people and the Solent was filled with boats, all cheering and enjoying the spectacle.
It was a humbling and inspiring day, and we all left feeling positive and a little proud, difficult not to when seeing the Red Arrows shooting past streaming red white and blue smoke.
We also felt very “Portsmouth proud” as so many were out in support, and frankly the organisation to coordinate the security alone is mind boggling.
